Medicom Buying Guide and
Product Selection
What personal protective equipment should you choose in the healthcare sector?
Discover our practical guide, designed for sensitive environments (cleanrooms, healthcare facilities, laboratories, pharmacies), featuring a selection of our certified products.

How to choose the right PPE?
Choosing PPE is not simply a matter of product availability: it must meet specific criteria relating to your line of work and your working environment. To help you make your decision, consider the following:
- The working environment: ISO 3–5 cleanroom, ESSMS, laboratory, pharmacy.
- Type of risk: biological exposure, liquid splashes, airborne particles, electrostatic discharge (ESD).
- The required level of sterility: sterile or non-sterile, depending on the area and the protocol.
- Applicable standards: EN 14683 for surgical masks, EN 149 for FFP masks, and Category III PPE for serious risks.
- Traceability and compliance: certificates, CE marking, suitable packaging.
- Comfort and ergonomics: breathability (∆P), fastening system, long cuff, available sizes.
By combining these criteria, you can ensure safety, efficiency and user engagement.
Standards and performance
Surgical masks are governed by the EN 14683 standard, which primarily defines BFE (bacterial filtration efficiency), breathability (∆P) and resistance to splashes for Type IIR masks. Some manufacturers carry out additional PFE or VFE tests, but these are not part of the official standard.
- Surgical masks are governed by the EN 14683 standard, which primarily defines BFE (bacterial filtration efficiency), breathability (∆P) and resistance to splashes for Type IIR masks. Some manufacturers carry out additional PFE or VFE tests, but these are not part of the official standard.
- For FFP masks, the standard remains EN 149, which defines three filtration levels (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3). In cleanrooms, Helmke tests guarantee low particle release, whilst sterile products are validated by ETO sterilisation in accordance with ISO 11135, achieving a NAS level of 10⁻⁶.
These technical specifications ensure compliance and help guide your choices.
Face protection – Surgical masks & ISO
In healthcare, the face is the first line of defence against hazards such as splashes, droplets or particles. Surgical masks protect the patient’s immediate surroundings and are suitable for routine care, whilst models designed for ISO 3 or ISO 5 environments limit particle release in cleanrooms. Elastic straps, ties or pleated designs: the choice depends on both the desired level of comfort and the protocol.
ISO AIR 60.712M – non-sterile mask with elastic straps
The ISO AIR 60.712M model offers certified protection with a filtration efficiency of over 99 per cent (BFE/PFE/VFE). Designed for ISO 3 to ISO 5 controlled environments, it has low particle shedding, validated by Helmke testing. Its Softex technology improves breathability and comfort, even during prolonged wear. Manufactured in France using a mass balance approach, it incorporates recycled materials, thereby reinforcing its sustainability credentials.
A practical, high-performance and environmentally responsible mask: a safe choice for your teams.
ISO AIR 60.701-30 – pleated mask with crosswise elastic straps
The ISO AIR 60.701-30 stands out for its pleated design and crosswise elastic straps, ensuring a secure fit over long periods. Its filtration performance exceeds 99 per cent (BFE/PFE/VFE), whilst maintaining excellent breathability as measured by ∆P. Designed for controlled environments, it minimises particle release to preserve air quality.
Reliability, comfort and safety come together in this mask, which is suitable for demanding ISO environments.

Respiratory protection – FFP masks
When the risks become more serious, respiratory protection must go beyond a surgical mask. FFP masks, as defined by the EN 149 standard, provide direct protection for the wearer against solid and liquid aerosols. There are three levels (FFP1, FFP2, FFP3), each offering an increasing filtration efficiency.
Kolmi® Oxygen FFP2 NR D Type IIR
The Kolmi® Oxygen FFP2 NR D Type IIR mask combines two essential certifications: EN 149 for wearer protection and EN 14683 Type IIR for fluid barrier protection. Classified as PPE Category III and Medical Device Class I, it provides effective filtration of aerosols whilst limiting the penetration of droplets. Each mask is individually packaged, manufactured in France, and contains up to 70 per cent recycled materials thanks to the Mass Balance approach.
A choice that combines efficiency, comfort and environmental responsibility.
Kolmi® Oxygen FFP3 NR D Type IIR
The Kolmi® Oxygen FFP3 NR D Type IIR mask offers the highest level of filtration as defined by the EN 149 standard, whilst meeting the requirements of EN 14683 Type IIR. Classified as PPE Category III and Medical Device Class I, it provides effective protection against aerosols and splashes. Packaged in individual sachets, it is manufactured in France and forms part of a sustainable approach thanks to the use of recycled materials (Mass Balance approach).
An FFP3 mask that combines maximum performance with a commitment to social responsibility.
Hand protection – Gloves (Medical Devices + PPE)
In healthcare, gloves are essential for preventing biological risks, protecting against certain one-off chemical exposures or avoiding accidental splashes. Depending on the intended use, standard disposable gloves or long-cuff versions that cover the forearm are recommended. Medical gloves fall under Regulation (EU) 2017/745 (MDR) as medical devices, and may also fall under Regulation (EU) 2016/425 as Category III PPE when they provide protection against serious risks.
Coverfeel® Care – nitrile gloves
Manufactured in France, Coverfeel® nitrile gloves are available in several versions – Touch, Care and Care Long – and in sizes XS to XXL. Their remarkable elasticity ensures long-lasting comfort, even with repeated use. Free from accelerators, they minimise Type IV allergic reactions whilst offering comfort, dexterity and excellent grip. Reliable and practical examination gloves for everyday use in healthcare.
Safetouch® Vitals – latex gloves
The Safetouch® Vitals powder-free latex glove offers excellent dexterity and a reliable barrier against microorganisms, whilst minimising irritation. The textured fingers ensure a precise grip, whilst the elasticity of the latex guarantees comfort and tactile sensitivity.

Personal protection – Overalls & smocks
When faced with splashes, particles or the hygiene requirements of controlled areas, personal protective equipment plays a key role. Whether it is full-body coveralls or microporous gowns, each solution must balance a protective barrier with comfort, to ensure continuous use without hindering movement.
